Nick Gordon entered salary arbitration with the Minnesota Twins on Friday, aiming for an increase in salary from $735,400 to $1.25 million, while the team advocated for a figure of $900,000.
The arbitration panel, comprised of Jasbir Parmer, Scott Buchheit, and Keith Greenberg, is anticipated to deliver a verdict on Saturday.
Gordon, a versatile 28-year-old player who operates in the outfield, at second base, and shortstop, encountered a challenging season in which he recorded a batting average of .185, alongside two home runs and seven RBIs across 34 games. This performance marked a decline from his stats in the previous season, where he boasted a .272 batting average, nine home runs, and 50 RBIs throughout 136 games in 2022.
His season took a significant turn when he sustained a fracture in his right shin after fouling off a pitch from Dylan Covey of the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 17. As a result of this injury, Gordon was sidelined until September 15, when he embarked on a six-game rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A St. Paul.
Throughout his tenure with the Twins spanning three seasons, Gordon has maintained a batting average of .250, tallying 15 home runs and 80 RBIs.
Notably, players have held a dominant position in salary arbitration, prevailing in seven out of nine cases thus far, with the final six hearings slated for the upcoming week.
In a separate development, second baseman Jonathan India and the Cincinnati Reds reached an agreement on a $8.8 million, two-year contract, effectively averting an arbitration hearing scheduled for next week. India, the 2021 NL Rookie of the Year, thus secures his future with the Reds without undergoing the arbitration process.
