According to a recent report, interest in Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is growing, with an AFC North team emerging as a likely suitor for a trade deal.
Adam Schefter, an NFL insider from ESPN, revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show” that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin holds a strong admiration for Fields. Schefter hinted that Tomlin’s fondness for Fields could influence the Steelers’ offseason plans.
This revelation coincided with news of the Steelers parting ways with Mitchell Trubisky, formerly of the Bears, leaving Kenny Pickett as their sole quarterback under contract after March 13. With Mason Rudolph heading to free agency, the Steelers are in need of quarterbacks, raising speculation about their intentions for the upcoming season.
The Steelers’ recent coaching changes, including the hiring of h Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator, suggest a shift in their offensive strategy. While there’s interest in Titans QB Ryan Tannehill due to his history with Smith, Schefter mentioned Fields and Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos as potential targets.
Despite speculation that Fields may command a second-round trade value, he is considered a promising quarterback with valuable attributes. For the Steelers, who hold the 20th overall pick in the first round, acquiring Fields might seem like a stretch. However, their second-round pick at No. 51 is likely too low to secure such a prized asset. Negotiations between the Bears and Steelers may involve Chicago aiming to secure the 20th pick in exchange for Fields, possibly including additional draft assets.
Fields’ potential and accomplishments make him an attractive option for the Steelers, especially considering their lack of top quarterback prospects in the draft. Tomlin’s admiration for Fields adds weight to the possibility of a trade, indicating that the Steelers could be serious contenders in acquiring the talented quarterback.
