The Steelers have made a significant move by parting ways with offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor, sparking speculation about potential interest from the Bengals.
With Jonah Williams likely to seek opportunities elsewhere, the Bengals have been considering options like Trent Brown or Jermaine Eluemunor in the free agency market. However, Okorafor emerges as another veteran possibility for their offensive line.
Having accumulated 59 starts and 77 game appearances for the Steelers across six seasons, Okorafor brings a wealth of experience to the table. Despite being benched midway through the 2023 season in favor of Broderick Jones, a first-round pick that year, Okorafor has showcased durability and reliability throughout his tenure.
The decision to release Okorafor was primarily aimed at creating cap space, freeing up nearly $9 million for the Steelers. As a seasoned player, Okorafor is eligible to sign with any team at any point.
Acknowledging Okorafor’s imperfections, particularly highlighted by allowing two sacks and 11 pressures in seven starts according to Pro Football Focus, the Bengals see him as a valuable addition. His potential signing could address one of their pressing needs, particularly at right tackle.
Considering the uncertainty surrounding Williams’ future with the team, Okorafor presents an attractive option for the Bengals in free agency. With the possibility of adding him to their roster even before the commencement of the new league year, Cincinnati appears poised to explore this opportunity to bolster their offensive line.
