The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team is set to start their 2024 season with a series against UNC Asheville at Foley Field. This marks the debut of their new head coach, Wes Johnson, who took over from Scott Stricklin last May. Johnson, who previously served as the LSU pitching coach and won the 2023 College World Series, brings a wealth of experience to the Diamond Dogs. Prior to LSU, he was the pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins.
In 2023, the Bulldogs had a disappointing season, finishing with a record of 29-27 (11-19 SEC) and placing sixth in the SEC East. With Coach Johnson at the helm, there is optimism that he can leverage his success in important games to guide the team back to the College World Series for the first time since 2008. There is also hope for a shot at their first national title since 1990.
