With a pressing need for a quarterback, they are expected to select either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, especially with Caleb Williams likely off the board as the Chicago Bears’ presumed choice for the top pick.
Recent reports and mock drafts indicate a strong likelihood that the Commanders will opt for Daniels over Maye. In a recent article by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, drafting Daniels was dubbed the “best-case scenario” for Washington this offseason. Despite being considered a riskier pick compared to Maye, Daniels is viewed as the type of quarterback who could revitalize the team and excite the fanbase.
Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, boasts impressive collegiate statistics, amassing 12,750 yards and 89 touchdowns against 20 interceptions over his five-year career split between Arizona and LSU. His standout 2023 season included 3,812 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.
While concerns exist regarding Daniels’ size and playing style, his exceptional talent, playmaking ability, rushing skills, and accuracy make a strong case for him as the second-best QB prospect in the 2024 class. Field Yates of ESPN even predicts the Commanders will select Daniels, noting his potential to thrive under new head coach Dan Quinn and alongside a promising wide receiver corps in Washington.
Ultimately, the Commanders’ decision remains uncertain, but Daniels appears to be a compelling option for a team and fanbase in need of a spark.
