Despite the uncertainty surrounding these players, the Chiefs made a different decision regarding a 2021 draft pick, signing wide receiver Cornell Powell to their offseason roster. Powell, a fifth-round pick in 2021, saw his contract expire after the Super Bowl, but the Chiefs have chosen to bring him back for the 2024 season.
Despite being a standout player at Clemson, Powell has seen limited action for the Chiefs, appearing in just three games since the 2021 season, with no recorded stats. His primary role has been on the practice squad, where he spent the entirety of the 2023 season.
Despite his limited on-field opportunities, Powell has evidently shown enough potential and promise during his time on the practice squad to earn a new contract for the upcoming season.
