Breaking: Milan Council Meeting Spurs Potential San Siro Stadium Renovation…

The Council of Milano has released an official statement detailing further information about today’s meeting at City Hall involving the Mayor, AC Milan, and Inter.

Recent weeks have seen a resurgence in discussions about a new stadium, spurred by Milan’s purchase of land in San Donato for a new home. Around the same time, the Council proposed a €300 million renovation of San Siro in an effort to convince the teams to stay.

Rather than outright rejecting the renovation proposal and sticking to their plans for San Donato, both AC Milan and Inter have shown a willingness to consider the idea.

The Mayor of Milano, Beppe Sala, invited the two clubs to discuss the San Siro plan, which was put forward by the Arco Associati studio and received public feasibility support from the construction group WeBuild. The meeting lasted 35 minutes this morning.

The official statement on the Comune Milano website provides more detail on the meeting’s purpose and the next steps:

“The meeting at Palazzo Marino today involved Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, Alessandro Antonello, Corporate CEO of FC Internazionale Milano, and Paolo Scaroni, President of AC Milan.

“The meeting aimed to assess a feasibility plan for the San Siro stadium renovation, which we have agreed to pursue.

“Webuild SpA will collaborate pro bono, as previously indicated, to prepare a feasibility study within three months. The teams will provide guidelines for a potential renovation to create a more modern and efficient stadium.

“Following this, the city administration and the teams will explore the possibility and methods of proceeding. The club representatives emphasized the need to minimize disruption to stadium capacity during the works.

“The interventions must be compatible with match schedules, sporting events, and entertainment to avoid economic losses and ensure an engaging, safe, and comfortable experience for spectators.

“The project will also consider urban developments in the San Siro area, particularly for its redevelopment. A crucial condition, to be defined, is that the stadium will become the property of the teams.

“The Mayor acknowledged that the teams will continue to explore other options but expressed hope that the San Siro plan will lead to a satisfactory outcome for all parties involved.”
