Despite initial skepticism about the Packers’ decision to invest heavily in an unproven quarterback following the Aaron Rodgers era, Love silenced doubters with an impressive performance in his first season as the team’s QB1, earning approximately $15 million in 2024, including bonuses.
Looking ahead, the Packers will need to commit significant funds to retain the 25-year-old quarterback. Joel Corry, a former sports agent now specializing in NFL contracts, anticipates that negotiations for Love’s extension will commence after the 2024 Draft in late April. Corry suggests that Love could seek a deal surpassing the $50,271,667 per year that Rodgers received in his final contract with the Packers in 2022. Love’s productivity in the previous season, outshining Rodgers’ performance in 2022, supports the case for a lucrative extension.
A potential $50 million per year contract for Love would mark a substantial increase from his 2024 salary and position him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Currently, Joe Burrow leads the quarterback pay scale with $55 million per year, a record that could soon be eclipsed by Love’s anticipated contract extension.
