The Minnesota Twins are reportedly among the final four contenders to sign free agent utility player Kike Hernandez, as indicated by a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Hernandez, who is 32 years old, boasts a career batting average of .239, along with 108 home runs and 393 RBIs over his decade-long Major League Baseball tenure. Alongside the Twins, the Los Angeles Angels, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants are also vying to secure Hernandez’s services.
Hernandez faced a setback last season, likely attributed to his double hernia surgery on October 24. Despite a challenging start with the Boston Red Sox, where he batted just .222, Hernandez showed improvement after being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Dodgers, he achieved a .262 batting average in 54 games and went 3 for 8 in three postseason appearances.
If Hernandez joins the Twins, he could offer valuable depth, particularly in the outfield, where Minnesota lacks right-handed hitters. Given Byron Buxton’s history of injuries, Hernandez could serve as a reliable option in center field should Buxton face an extended period on the injured list.
