Jefferson, whose participation on the field resumed on November 8th, has been sidelined for the past seven matches due to a right hamstring injury sustained during a Week 5 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. He is expected to make a comeback following the team’s upcoming break in Week 14, facing off against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Upon his return, Jefferson will rejoin the Vikings’ roster, which currently stands at 6-6 and is actively competing for a playoff spot. However, they have faced setbacks, losing two consecutive games after bouncing back from a challenging 1-4 start marked by Jefferson’s absence.
Initially led by quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Vikings demonstrated resilience, securing three consecutive victories. Nevertheless, their primary quarterback sustained a season-ending torn Achilles in Week 8. Subsequently, rookie backup Jaren Hall suffered a concussion the following week against the Atlanta Falcons. Nevertheless, Josh Dobbs, acquired from the Arizona Cardinals before the trade deadline, stepped in and orchestrated a remarkable comeback win against the Atlanta Falcons. He continued to perform well in the subsequent victory against the New Orleans Saints.
Despite this momentum, the Vikings’ winning streak was halted at five games with a Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos. Dobbs encountered difficulties in the recent defeat against the Bears, throwing four interceptions.
The uncertainty looms over who will be throwing passes to Jefferson upon his return, as head coach Kevin O’Connell refrained from committing to Dobbs as the definitive starter moving forward after Monday’s loss.
In the five games he played this season, Jefferson has accumulated 36 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns, boasting an average of 114.2 yards per game.
The Vikings are scheduled to play against the Raiders on December 10th.
