The upcoming 2024 NFL draft has teams eagerly scouting and strategizing to bolster their rosters with fresh talent. Among them, the Green Bay Packers, armed with 11 picks, are particularly eyeing defensive prospects to fortify their team. Prioritizing positions like safety and linebacker, they’ve already commenced discussions with one standout prospect.

In anticipation of the draft, the Packers recently sat down with Edgerrin Cooper, an accomplished linebacker, ahead of the NFL Combine and Draft. Cooper, a product of Texas A&M, officially declared for the draft following a successful collegiate career. Garnering attention as a 4-star recruit from Covington High School, he ultimately found his place at Texas A&M.

In his senior year with the Aggies in 2023, Cooper showcased his prowess across 12 games, tallying notable statistics. His contributions included 58 tackles, 17 assists, and 56 stops, indicative of his defensive impact. Additionally, he demonstrated proficiency as a pass rusher, generating 27 total pressures, encompassing 12 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 10 sacks, further underscoring his versatility and effectiveness on the field.

During the Shrine Bowl, Cooper seized the opportunity to interface with representatives from all 32 NFL teams, solidifying his presence as a sought-after prospect. Projections currently place him within the 2nd to 4th round range, though his draft stock remains fluid pending evaluations at events like the NFL Combine and potential Pro Days.

With a concerted focus on defensive reinforcements, the Packers are actively engaging with prospects like Cooper who align with their team’s objectives and defensive strategies. As they navigate the pre-draft landscape, these interactions serve as pivotal steps in shaping their draft decisions and ultimately strengthening their defensive roster for the upcoming season.
