Report Reveals that Seahawks Advocated to Consider Trading for Active 24-Year-Old Quarterback From Bears…

The Seattle Seahawks are being advised to consider acquiring a versatile quarterback to bolster their roster. According to Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, the team should explore the possibility of trading for Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Despite having Geno Smith as their current starting quarterback, the Seahawks have only marginally exceeded a .500 record with him at the helm over the past two seasons, as Sobleski notes.

While acquiring Fields would likely require the Seahawks to make significant moves to secure the necessary assets, Sobleski argues that it’s a move worth considering. He suggests that Seattle could potentially trade down in the first round of the draft to acquire additional assets and use them to facilitate a deal for Fields. This approach would help offset the absence of a second-round draft pick, which the Seahawks traded away in a previous deal.

Fields has emerged as a focal point of trade rumors leading up to the 2024 NFL draft, with the Bears reportedly considering selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the top pick. If this scenario unfolds, the Bears could opt to trade Fields rather than retain him and draft a supporting player like a wide receiver or offensive lineman.

Despite Fields’ strong performance towards the end of the 2023 season, his future with the Bears remains uncertain. If the Bears exercise their fifth-year option on Fields, he is set to earn $22 million in 2025, with a potential contract extension significantly increasing his value. Given these financial considerations, trading Fields could be a more viable option for the Bears, allowing them to draft a more affordable successor in Williams.

For the Seahawks, acquiring Fields would represent a significant investment, both in terms of draft capital and potential contract value. However, Fields’ dual-threat abilities and the Seahawks’ talented receiving corps could make him an attractive option to elevate the team’s performance. With Geno Smith’s contract expiring in two years, the Seahawks could view Fields as a long-term solution at quarterback, potentially justifying the investment required to secure his services.
